FAQs - Wardrobes

  • Q
    What is an aperture?
  • A
An aperture is the measured space that you're installing your sliding wardrobe doors into.
  • Q
    What is MFC?
  • A
MFC is melamine-faced chipboard a widely used, accredited timber product.
  • Q
How high and wide can I go?
  • A
Our sliding doors are made according to the overall height and width of the actual aperture you wish to install the system into.
The maximum height is 2490mm and the maximum width is 5000mm.
  • Q
    What is the standard depth?
  • A
We recommend a minimum depth of 600mm. Our end panels are 600mm deep. Most housebuilders set their wardrobe systems at 600mm
  • Q
Will you install the sliding wardrobes for me?
  • A
Unfortunately we cannot offer a fitting service to our retail customers please refer to our comprehensive fitting instructions. If you have any further questions, please contact the Screwfixwardobes.com technical team 0800 048 2370.
  • Q
    What is a liner?
  • A
A liner is a piece of MFC (melamine-faced chipboard). This will match your choice of sliding door frame. The purpose of a liner is to act as a floor plate for the bottom track as well as a wall liner where the sliding doors will meet the wall. Our liners are 90mm wide, 18mm thick and approx 2500mm long. They are not compulsory, and you can delete them from our order sequence if they are not required.
  • Q
    What is an end panel?
  • A
An end panel acts as an MFC (melamine-faced chipboard) side of the wardrobe. For example you may wish to have one side as an existing wall in your bedroom. You can then use an end panel on the other side to determine the width of your wardrobe. Our end panels will match your frame and are 600mm deep 18mm thick and approx 2500mm high. (You can cut this down to suit your bedroom ceiling height.)
  • Q
What does wall to wall mean?
  • A
Wall to wall means that you will run your fitted wardrobe right across a room from one wall to the other. You do not need an end panel, but we advise you have liners to protect the walls.
  • Q
What area of wall can I cover with the wardrobes?
  • A
By adding more doors you can cover any width from 600mm up to 5 metres. The system can be made to suit any height from 400mm up to a maximum of 2450mm.
  • Q
As the sliding wardrobe door system is going to be made to the dimensions I provide, is it easy for me to take the correct measurements?
  • A
Yes, please refer to our comprehensive measuring guide page by clicking here.
  • Q
    Are they difficult to install?
  • A
No, each of the sliding doors is fully assembled with top and bottom rollers. You do have to cut and fix the liners and end panel if required and the top and bottom tracksets. The wardrobe doors are not heavy but as they can be up to 2440mm high, general handling and locating them into the finished position is much easier with two people. As a guide a door measuring 2100mm height x 2000mm wide weighs approximately 12kg. An average time for fitting a three door sliding system will be 2-3 hours. If you are incorporating an end panel allow a further 1-1.5 hours. Full installation instructions are available by clicking here.
